Are The Robots Taking Over?

ChatGPT by OpenAI has changed our world. Whether you see it as a wonder, or possibly the first step in the downfall of our civilization, it’s more sophisticated than anything the public has seen from Google search or commercial chatbots in the last 5 years. ChatGPT doesn’t just scrape the Internet for answers, it collectively analyzes data and compiles a response that is situationally appropriate, if you provide enough information.

AI can help write and debug software code, answer complex questions, and supporters make claims about it writing creatively. The latter has led many people who write for a living, especially marketers, to question if AI could possibly replace the human component in our work.

Robots Are Not Quite Ready to Replace Us

Before you jump to AI to write your marketing copy, it’s important to understand the role of a copywriter. Writing marketing copy, especially for email, is a specific skill that requires more than just a spelling and grammar check of your message. Copywriting is a persuasive writing style that is optimized for reaching goals specific to the organization and the audience.

In terms of email, it includes optimization for behavior, including open and click rates. AI might be able to summarize the points on your website, or add some pitchy jargon around your text, but if you’re looking for measurable results from an email campaign, you will get far better results from a human being who specializes in that work.

Not convinced? Try it for yourself. Test a campaign generated by AI and one written by a professional copywriter. Odds are, you’ll see a remarkable difference in results. In the long run, that difference typically pays for the cost of a professional writer several times over.

Your competitors might be using AI to build their campaigns, but that doesn’t mean you should. Capitalize on the fact that all of their campaigns will sound the same, and less human-friendly by offering creative that is ACTUALLY creative. Your subscribers will notice the difference.
